DAD WRIGHT (aka moose)
Mum WRIGHT (aka Bobbi)
Maureen wright
Carl (aka Robert Carl, aka Chicken Legs, aka Moose) is Father of the Wright Family. He loves fishing, hunting, animals, and, of course, his large family of his wife and five children. He and the sister of Mum's best friend in WWII, whom the family calls "Aunt Claire," are the only ones in the family and, for that matter, the community who name Paddy, “Paddy Peanut.”
Moose was a famous Night Fight in the Royal Canadian Airforce (RCAF)--the squadran's motto was "We Kill by Night"-- and she alone shot down 16 enemy aircraft at night, protecting the English Channel and later Malta, the critical entrance to the Mediterranean. Newspapaers ran headlines like "MOOSE STRIKES AGAIN!" and Paddy remembers her older teachers telling her how famous he was.
Madeleine Sicilia Juliana Reay (“Bobby”) was dropped off at a nunnery south of Lonon at a very young age--she was essentially orphaned, like many of the wild animals at the Pinery Pointe Sanctuary--though she isn't fond of having animals in the house other than the family's pet dog and cat.
She was raised by the nuns and wanted to become a nun. But the Head Mother nun realized she was not cut out for nunnery--she was too rambunctious, breaking rules to seek adventures--a lot like Paddy. She met Moose in the war--she was a WAAF (Women’s Auxiliary Airforce). After the war, she travelled by freighter and train to Toronto, Ontario, Canad to meet up with Moose, and by 1948she was the mother of five children. She is shown here ambitiously and wildly cutting Paddy Peanut’s hair (to Paddy's dismay). She met her husband when in the WAAF (Women’s Auxiliary Airforce) and he was in the RCAF (Royal Canadia Airforce).
Maureen, the eldest child in the family, an avid book reader, and a “know it all.” She is often left by her parents to care for the rest of the kids.
RICHARD WRIGHT
Richard is the second eldest family child and the only boy. He loves fishing with his dad, and repeatedly calls Paddy, to her dismay, “Pinhead.” But he turns out to be a solid, reliable brother to Paddy when she needs him, and a lot of fun.
Gail Wright
Gail is the third eldest child in the Wright family and closest to Paddy in age.She always shares a room with Paddy. She is often Paddy’s “co-conspirato,”and comes to her aid when she really needs her.
Debbie Wright
Debbie is the youngest of the Wright five children. On her birth, she displaces Paddy from the cherished position of spoiled, precious baby, which Paddy held for 6 years. Paddy enjoys playing with Debbie, but often feels jealous.
PADDY PEANUT
Paddy Peanut is here shown proudly wearing her new name-tag of which she is most proud, "'PADDY, Pinery Pointe Wild Animal Sanctuary Aide." This is the major turning point in Paddy's life, wherein she gains the prestige and special identity she had been lacking by being recognized for working as an aide to wild animals at a sanctuary not a ruler over them in a kingdom. At the wildlife sanctuary, she helps care forwild animals and, whenever possible, helps release them to the wild. Even when on the way hoom, she encounters a rare, tortoise, with what looks like maps of the underwater bottom of Georgian Bay all over its shell, she resists taking it home to show off to her family and friends. Instead, she saves it from being run over by a tanker truck and points it on the right nature path. She doesn't even name it. Like hunters who rescue injured animals, Paddy Peanut here acknowledge that she and all communities are part of a paradoxical ecosystem wherein love takes the form of care and release.
