ANIMALS CAPTURED BY PADDY PEANUT
tOMMY THE TURTLE
Tommy the turtle is the first animal Paddy captures to begin her Wild Animal Kingdom. He’s an escape artist, though, and repeatedly finds himself in non-pond-like places. When he ends up for three days upside-down, in Mum’s underpants drawer, she gets super mad and flushes him down the toilet. He was certainly already dead (“a goner,” “bit the biscuit”), when she flushed him, but Paddy is understandably very upset.
FREDDIE THE FROG
Freddie the Frog is caught at the edge of the pond near the cottage; Paddy thinks she can teach him tricks like jumping through a ring. But Freddie is very uncooperative and very unhappy in his new home with Paddy as ruler. He refuses to eat or move around, and most determinedly refuses to jump. GERTIE THE GARTER SNAKE
Gertie the Garter Snake is caught by Paddy in a marshy pond beyond a rocky point help making the bay where Paddy's and other families rent cottages at Pinery Pointe. The swamp is full of such little green snakes. All the kids with her are terrified of the snake, but Paddy "heroically gravs one by the tale. Paddy’s dad reassures her that the snake is harmless but warns her not to bring the snake into the house. "Mum won’t like that," he says. So Paddy puts the little snake in a box on the back screened porch of her cottage. The next morning she is dumbfounded to find Gertie has escaped..
CLUBSY THE BEAR CUB
Clubsy the baby bear, is burnt badly from a recent forest fire . He also was born with a club foot, which disability means he likely wouldn’t survive in the wild. That's probably why his Mum and siblings had to abandon to him. Doug, the lead organizer of The Pinery Pointe Sanctuary for Wild Animals, has arranged for Clubsy to the Brantford Zoo once he’s healed. There, he will be able to play with another bear cub the Zoo is fostering.
MILEY AND KILEY, THE TWO RED FOX KITS
Miley and Kiley, red fox “kits” (babies) also came to the Sancuary because of the fire. The were abandoned by their family just like Clubsy. They are almost indistinguishable except that Miley has a white spot at the top of her neck and Kiiley is just all red. When they are old enough to fend for themselves, they will be released back into the wild.
FRECKLES THE FAWN
Freckles the Fawn, is orphaned when her mum is hit and killed by a car. But, unbenownst to Paddy, her dad took the baby fawn to the Wild Animal Sanctuary. When visiting the Sanctuary Paddy named her “Freckles” because both of them have freckles.Paddy and her brother Richard play a major part in helping to release the fawn back into the night, so that it can join a new wild deer family., whose mother accepts her as one of her own

Big (Map) Tortoise, saved by Paddy from being run over by a truck. Paddy barely manages to scoop him up and jump with him to the side of the road before being run over by the tanker truck. In the scene pictured here, Paddy points the turtle in the direction he should be going—toward the grassy area and the lake.
